Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve gathered the answers to some popular questions below. If you can’t find your question below feel free to contact me, and I’ll be happy to help.

How will counselling help me?

Counselling can provide a wide range of benefits that can help you navigate challenges, enhance your well-being, and promote personal growth. While the specific outcomes can vary depending on your goals and the approach we use that best fits your needs.
You have the ability to find your own solutions through gentle exploration I’ll help you find them.

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

Some clients may be unsure about how to start conversations in sessions, that’s ok, you can discuss whatever comes to mind. Addressing past and present traumas or sensitive topics, can be discussed when you are ready. I am fully equipped to handle such discussions at your pace.

Is what I say confidential?

Confidentiality is a significant concern. Clients often seek assurance that their discussions in therapy will remain private and confidential, with exceptions only as required by law.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

If you wish to cancel please ensure you have read our cancelation policy which can be found here: Cancellation policy In short I do require 24 hours notice in order to refund you.

What is person-centred counselling?

Person-centred counselling, also known as client-centred therapy, is a humanistic and empathetic therapeutic approach developed by psychologist Carl Rogers. This approach places a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and the belief in each individual’s innate capacity for growth, self-awareness, and positive change.

Person-centred counselling is effective for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, personal growth, and self-esteem challenges. The therapeutic process often leads to increased self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, enhanced communication skills, and a greater sense of self-acceptance.

How do I know if we’re making progress?

Recognising progress is an important aspect of the therapeutic process. While progress can be subjective and may not always be immediately obvious, there are several signs and indicators that you can look for to assess whether you’re making headway for example:

Increased self-awareness

Improved coping skills

Enhanced communication

Reduced symptoms

Empowerment

Shift in perspective

I will do regular check ins to gage feedback on progress.

What if I feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed during sessions?

If you feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed during a our session, it’s important for us both to address these feelings in a constructive and supportive manner.

We will do this by recognising and validating your feelings at The counselling Vine I will always provide you with a safe, non-judgemental environment where you can openly express your feelings and concerns.

It’s important to remember that counselling is a collaborative process, and my primary goal is to create a supportive and therapeutic space for you. If at any point you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s completely acceptable to communicate your feelings. Open communication ensures that we both work together to make your therapeutic experience as beneficial as possible.

How long will it take?

The duration of counselling can vary widely depending on several factors, including the nature of the issues being addressed, the goals of the counselling, the individual’s progress and responsiveness to therapy, the frequency of sessions, and the therapeutic approach used.
